Who weft extensions suit — and who they don’t
Weft is the method to choose when the goal is volume rather than only length. A continuous row covers far more of the head in one pass than individual bonds can, so someone wanting genuinely thick hair gets there in one sitting instead of across hundreds of strands. Nothing is heated and nothing is glued — the row is secured against your own hair, which is why it holds up to the gym, to travel and to daily washing.
It needs a base to hold on to. That is the single biggest limit: the row anchors into your natural hair, so you need reasonable density through the mid-section of the head for it to sit safely and invisibly. On thin or sparse hair a weft has too little to grip, and forcing it creates tension at exactly the wrong points. If your hair is on the finer side, nano rings or tape distribute the same weight far better.
Weft also sits slightly thicker at the attachment row than tape does, which is invisible under normal wear but is worth knowing if you habitually wear very tight, very high styles that expose the back of the head.
Maintenance runs every six to eight weeks. The row is taken down, moved back up to the root and re-secured, and the hair itself is reused across several refits — so as with tape, the recurring cost is the fitting rather than new hair each time.
Hand-tied weft or machine weft?
Hand-tied weft extensions are sewn by hand into a thin, flat track — the finest and least visible weft, for hair that is medium rather than thick. Machine weft extensions are sewn by machine into a sturdier track that carries more hair per row — the choice for serious thickness. Both are human hair weft extensions in Remy or raw Indian grade, applied without heat or glue, and we choose between them by what your hair can hide and carry.
Weft extensions for volume, and on thin hair
For volume, a weft row is the most hair per attachment of any method, which is exactly why it is the wrong method for thin hair: the row concentrates weight along a line of your own hair. Medium-to-thick hair carries it well; fine hair should read our thin-hair page and consider nano rings instead.
