What is a women's hair system?
A hair system is a custom base fitted to your head, with human hair knotted into it so it parts and moves like your own. Unlike a wig you take on and off casually, a system is fitted to your measurements and blended into whatever hair you still have.
For women we build them lighter and softer than men's systems, with a natural parting and a hairline that suits your face. Coverage can be the full head or just the crown and parting, depending on what you need — we decide that together at the consultation.
Who a women’s system suits, and what the fitting involves
When a system is the right call
A topper covers a spot; a system covers a region. If thinning runs across the whole top rather than sitting at the crown or parting, if the parting has widened past what a topper base can span, or if the hair that remains is fine and short after long-term medical treatment or hormonal change, a system gives coverage a topper cannot. It also suits women who want to wash, sleep and exercise without taking anything off at night — a bonded or tape-secured system stays in between servicing visits — and women who prefer the opposite: a clip-secured system comes off in the evening.
When it is not
Thinning that is only at the crown or parting is a topper job, and we will say so, because a topper is lighter, cooler and less to look after. Something for a single occasion is a clip-in or a ready-made wig. A scalp that is tender or inflamed is one we wait on rather than attach to — a wig in the meantime, the system once things have settled.
What happens at the fitting
After the consultation we take a template of your head and the area to cover, and choose the base with you: lace at the hairline for the most natural front, monofilament where the parting sits, a skin base where it needs to stay put. The hair is matched for shade, texture, density and the percentage of grey. A custom system takes a few weeks to arrive; on the day it is attached, the parting is set, and it is cut in with your own hair dry so the shape is the one you will actually wear. You leave with the wash and styling routine written down.
Servicing, lifespan and cost
A bonded or taped system is serviced every four to eight weeks depending on the attachment; a clip-secured one comes in when it needs a clean, a re-knot or a colour refresh. With that, a system typically lasts a year or more. Because no two are the same base, hair length or coverage, we quote at the consultation rather than publish a single price, and you have the figure before anything is ordered.
