How Much Do Hair Extensions Cost in Chennai?
Search for hair extension prices in Chennai and you will find two kinds of answer: salons that give you nothing but “book a consultation”, and marketplace listings quoting a few thousand rupees for a packet of hair with no fitting. Neither tells you what you will actually pay to walk out with hair that looks like yours.
This is the answer we give people who phone us. It uses our own published starting prices, so every figure is checkable, and it explains what moves the number — because that is the part that lets you compare one salon’s quote with another’s.
Starting prices by method
These are our own starting prices for a partial application of 16-inch hair, current as of September 2026. They are floors, not quotes; the section after this explains why.
Clip-in set — from ₹6,000. A one-off purchase rather than a fitting, and the only method with no recurring cost.
Tape-in — from ₹10,000. About an hour to fit, hair reusable across re-tapes.
Weft / sew-in — from ₹12,000. Quoted by rows rather than strands.
Micro ring — from ₹14,000. Nano ring — from ₹16,000. Rings reused at every maintenance visit.
Keratin fusion — from ₹15,000. The longest single fitting, and the most stylist time.
Maintenance is from ₹3,000, a full refit reusing your existing hair from ₹4,000, and removal from ₹2,000. Colour matching and blending are included with every installation; they are never a separate line. The complete table is on our price list.
What actually decides the number
Four things, in this order of importance. If a salon quotes you without asking about the first two, it is guessing.
1. Weight — how many grams your head needs
This is the big one, and the one people least expect. Two clients wanting the same look can differ twofold in grams: one needs full coverage across the whole head, the other only the back filled and the sides left alone. Hair is priced by weight, so this alone can double a quote. A partial application for volume might be 50–80g; a full head of length is often 150–200g. Ask any salon for the weight in grams before you compare its number with anyone else’s — it is the only way two quotes are comparable.
2. Length
Longer hair costs more per gram because less of it exists. Sixteen inches is the common baseline; each step up to 18, 20 or 22 inches adds to the price. If you want length rather than volume, budget for this.
3. Grade of hair
Genuine Remy hair, with the cuticle intact and running one direction, costs more than processed non-Remy hair and lasts many times longer. This is where the cheapest quotes in Chennai come from: hair that looks identical in the packet and matts within weeks. The human hair page explains how to tell them apart. If a price is far below everything else you have been quoted, the grade is almost always the reason.
4. Method
Method matters less than people expect. Keratin fusion costs more than tape mainly because it is three to four hours of a stylist’s time, not because the hair is different. The hair is the same hair. Choose the method for your hair type and your routine, then let the weight and grade set the price.
Why nobody honest quotes a final price over the phone
Because the weight cannot be judged without seeing and touching your hair. A salon that gives you a firm figure over WhatsApp is quoting for somebody else’s head. What a good salon can do is publish its starting prices, so you know before you travel whether it is even in your range — and then give you a firm number at a consultation. The cost over a year, not just on the day
For tape, weft and rings the hair is reused across fittings, so what recurs is the maintenance visit rather than new hair. Keratin gives the longest single fitting but the bonds are not reusable. Clip-ins have no recurring cost at all. That changes the picture over twelve months considerably: a method that is cheaper on day one is not necessarily cheaper by month twelve. Questions to ask before you compare quotes
How many grams am I being quoted for, and at what length? Is the hair Remy or non-Remy? What does maintenance cost and how often? Is colour matching included or extra? What does removal cost if I change my mind? If a salon cannot answer all five, the quote is not comparable with one from a salon that can.
